Privacy policy
PawQuest helps you remember the cats and dogs you meet. Your collection is private: nobody else can see your friends, photos, notes or places. This policy explains what PawQuest stores, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. It applies to the PawQuest Android app, the web app at pawquest.devcad.tech/app, and this website.
What we collect
- Account: your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive the name on your Google account, which PawQuest uses to greet you.
- Your collection: the photos you save, the nicknames, notes and relationships ("my pet") you add, and the date and time of each visit.
- Location (optional): when you allow it, the place where you took a photo, so it can appear on your private map with a short place name. For photos picked from your gallery, PawQuest uses the location stored in the photo, if your phone kept it. You can remove a location before saving, and location is never needed to earn EXP. The photo files we store don't contain location data.
- Photo fingerprints: when you take a photo, your phone turns it into a list of numbers that describes it. We store these to suggest which of your friends a new photo shows. They describe animals and aren't used to identify people.
- Progress and settings: EXP, levels, achievements, your reward-day timezone and preferences such as tips and reminders.
- Notifications (optional): if you turn on milestone reminders, a notification token for your phone or browser so we can send them. Turning reminders off or signing out removes it.
- Feedback: messages and ratings you choose to send, with the app version and whether you used the Android app or the web app.
We don't collect your contacts, advertising IDs or browsing history, and PawQuest has no ads.
What stays on your device
Photo recognition (telling cats from dogs, and making photo fingerprints) runs on your phone or in your browser; photos are not sent to a recognition service. Photos taken while offline wait on your device until they upload. PawQuest also keeps small preferences on your device, such as whether you've seen the introduction.
How we use it
Only to run PawQuest for you: to sign you in, save and sync your collection across your devices, work out EXP and achievements, show your map, suggest matches, send the reminders you asked for, and reply to and learn from your feedback. We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or use your photos to train AI models.
Who helps us run PawQuest
These service providers process data on our behalf, only to provide their part of PawQuest:
- Supabase stores your account, collection and photos, and handles sign-in.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails.
- Google handles "Continue with Google" if you choose it, and Google Firebase delivers milestone reminders on Android.
- Your browser's push service (for example Apple, Google or Mozilla) delivers reminders in the web app.
- MapTiler (with OpenStreetMap data) provides map images and turns coordinates into place names. It receives the coordinates or map area being looked up, not your account details.
- Netlify hosts this website and the web app.
These providers may store data on servers outside your country. We choose providers that protect data in transit and at rest.
Sharing
Your collection is only shared when you choose to, for example with Share image on a friend's profile, which creates a picture with the photo, nickname and progress. Places and notes are never included. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete single visits and friends in the app, download a copy of everything from Profile → Privacy and data → Download your data, and delete your account from Profile → Privacy and data → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your account, collection, photos, fingerprints, progress and notification tokens right away; backups are cleared within 30 days. Feedback you sent is kept without your account details. You can also ask us by email; see Delete your account.
Your choices and rights
You can see, correct, download and delete your data in the app at any time, turn location and reminders on or off, and turn off tips. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict processing; email us and we'll help.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, and each collection is protected so that only its owner's account can read it. Photos are stored privately and shown through short-lived links.
Children
PawQuest is meant for people aged 13 and over, and we don't knowingly collect data from younger children. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app about significant changes. Questions or requests: support@devcad.tech.
